18 “The feeling we’re entering an
era of prophesies” 2002
Wood, book, nails 72 x
12 x 4”
As soon as something of great importance happens anywhere on the world stage,
people begin looking back to their favorite soothsayers to find the vague predictions
that match the specific event.
After 9/11, the numerologists had a field day, the Nostradamusists raved and
mystics everywhere pointed out that the attacks had been predicted. These
paroxysms of prescience usually leave me flat, but this time they resonated just
a bit. Maybe we were entering a foretold era. I didn’t
believe it, but this time, I didn’t just write it off, either.
I think my mother gave me this copy of “The complete prophesies of Nostradamus.” The
piece of wood is a beam from the apartment I was living in NYC at the time of
the attacks and the nails were found all around the city.
