"Ladybug" 2001
Acrylic on canvas 20 " x 16"
The ladybug, or ladybird, was originally called "bird of our lady," named
after the Virgin Mary for their many good deeds: eating aphids off of
roses and keeping myriad other harmful pests under control. In this painting,
the ladybug is put on a pedestal and glows a beatific glow, representing
the sacred origins of its name.
