"Mule" 2001
Acrylic on canvas 18" x 18"
"Just plain stubborn," reads the banner on this painting,
and that's the reputation of mules. I don't have a lot of experience
with mules, but I do have some experience with stubborness, and in my
eyes, it's not always a bad thing. Here, the mule's owner is trying to
pull it onto stage just as hard as the mule is trying to stay off. In
the foreground, we see what the owner does not: a snake. Much maligned,
stubborness is not always wrong.
